Stanmore based charity Cure Cancer headed to the UCL Cancer Institute to see the fruits of their labour and meet the university’s new Director of the Institute, Professor Gerhardt Attard.
During the meeting on Wednesday, November 6, where the Cure Cancer team and volunteers were taken on a tour of the equipment they have fundraised for, founder, chairman and trustee of Cure Cancer Sandra Hamilton said the fight would go on to support the cancer institute to help find cures, and thanked volunteers for their help raising money.
She said: “We all have connections with cancer, whether it’s touched us personally or through someone we love, it’s a battle so many of us have had to face.
“Our researchers work hard to find a cure, and we’ve helped to purchase and install equipment throughout the year, our most recent addition is the quantum analyser, which cost us £120,000.
“Without our amazing team, volunteers and supporters, it would not be possible to raise the money we so desperately need.”
Sandra also presented the Fundraiser of the Year Award to the Fast and Furious team associated with the charity, who raised £21,000 in 2024.
Prof Attard, who is a prostate cancer specialist, thanked the Cure Cancer team for their work fundraising for key equipment for the laboratory which generates vital research into cancer treatment.
Prof Attard said: “It’s a really motivating tool for all of us who work in the laboratory here, that’s what wakes us up in the morning, so thank you for all of the work you do.”
